With the popularity of HDPE pipes, how to connect HDPE pipes becomes increasingly important. Below we introduce several ways of connecting HDPE pipes and analyse the advantages and disadvantages for your reference.
There are four common ways to connect HDPE pipes, namely: butt-welding connection, electrofusion connection, restrained coupling or restrained flange adaptor connection, flange connection.
HDPE pipe connection methods are introduced as follows:
1,Butt welded, the performance characteristics of the butt weld connection are: rigid connection, non-disassembling, strong tensile strength. Whether the prefabricated installation is in the field or in the workshop can be connected with butt welding. Need special butt welding machines and professional training. The HDPE pipe needs to be treated, heated and then welded.
2、Electrofusion connection, this connection method is suitable for pipe diameter of φ40-315mm pipe connection. Its performance characteristics: reliable, simple and fast. Usually used for on-site welding, modification, etc. But the efficiency is slow and not applicable in bad weather conditions.
3、Connected by restrained coupling or restrained flange adaptor, this connection method is suitable for pipe diameter from OD40 to OD1000mm. Please note that because HDPE pipes are soft and easily deformed, it is necessary to use restrained coupling or restrained flange adaptor with grip ring or grip block for connection. When using this type of connection, care should be taken to chamfer the end of the fitting to 15° and then lubricate the surface with soft soap, silicone or petroleum jelly. The use of various mineral oils is strictly prohibited to avoid damaging the seal ring.

4, flange connection method, this connection method is suitable for pipe diameter φ40-1000mm. Need to add block at the end of HDPE pipe to block the flange.
